KVAL Television signed on the air on April 15, 1954. Throughout the years, KVAL has been an innovative leader in broadcasting is Western Oregon. KVAL was not only first on the air, but also the first to broadcast in color, first with local news, first to record and broadcast on video tape, and first in High Definition.

As a legacy station, KVAL takes its responsibility to community service seriously. Each year KVAL participates in over 40 community partnerships to support local agencies. Keynote events include annual telethons for Make A Wish Foundation of Oregon, which last year raised 2.6 million frequent flyer miles to support wish grants for critically ill children, and the Can Do Food Drive, which annually raises tens of thousands of pounds of food for local food banks.

KVAL broadcasts four hours of local news each weekday and has received the prestigious “Best Newscast” award from Oregon Associated Press three consecutive years. The KVAL sales and marketing department, along with their award winning commercial production department, help provide a vital economic link for local business.
