KATU News Announces Ratings Victories In May

June 2, 2011

KATU-TV is pleased to announce that in the May 2011 ratings period, KATU News This Morning is once again the most watched morning newscast.

Led by anchors Carl Click, Natali Marmion, meteorologist Rhonda Shelby, and 1190 KEX Traffic reporter Michael Convery, KATU News passed KGW, KPTV and KOIN to become the #1 newscast from 4:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. in Nielsen households.

“Our team has worked very hard to build this newscast, in front of the camera and behind the scenes, to deliver the market’s most comprehensive morning coverage,” said KATU Vice President & General Manager, John Tamerlano. “Carl, Natali, Rhonda and Michael have great chemistry and more people are making the choice to start their day with us.”

KATU News This Morning isn’t the only newscast to secure victories in May. KATU News First at 4:00 p.m., with Brian Wood, Angelica Thornton, and meteorologist Dave Salesky continues to be Portland’s #1 4 p.m. newscast.

KATU News at 6:00 p.m. with Steve Dunn, Debora Knapp and Dave Salesky is #1 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“From our first morning newscast at 4:30am to our 11:00pm broadcast, our newsroom staff works incredibly hard to give viewers the best local news,” said Tamerlano.

On our web platforms the KATU.com main site saw a 14.3 percent growth in page views in May 2011 compared to the same period the year prior, and a 51 percent increase in unique visitors. KATU’s hyperlocal sites saw a 34 percent growth in page views in May 2011 compared to the same period the year prior, and a 24 percent increase in unique visitors.
