Japan Disaster Relief Efforts
April 4, 2011On Wednesday, March 16, Fisher Communications partnered with the American Red Cross and Uwajimaya stores to aid tens of thousands of people who are homeless and living without basic necessities like food and water due to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Our stations provided phone banks to collect pledges and Uwajimaya stores in the Greater Seattle area also collected donations.
While Fisher provided resources to facilitate these efforts and many of our team members volunteered to answer phones, we wanted to make sure that all team members had an opportunity to support and contribute to these efforts. The American Red Cross has a variety of ways to donate, but Fisher set up a pledge form online where team members could also donate through an after-tax deduction directly from their paycheck. Team members could donate any amount of money and Fisher matched the first $10 made by each team member. All donations were sent directly to the American Red Cross.
Through the combined efforts of all the Fisher Communications’ properties, over half a million dollars has been raised to the American Red Cross to help in the relief efforts!
